Type: Master Planning
Location: Boston, MA
Scope:
This masterplan completed the main courtyard and reorganized and increased the capacity of the adjacent parking areas. Employing the traditional college quadrangle as a precedent, we utilized the perimeter facade as walls of the enclosure, linking the campus together around a central space. Eliminating the sea of pavement that engulfed the rear of the main building and uniting the space with some of the existing paths and trees, we developed a pattern of lawn planting and pathways that focused on a new circular reflecting pool and seating area. When completed in 1984 the design succeeded in helping knit together the campus and provided a quality environment and amenity to the college.
